About TMCSJ

The Thurgood Marshall Council on Social Justice is a public policy collaborative under the auspices of the Thurgood Marshall Center Trust dedicated to establishing legislative solutions to crucial issues of inequality impacting disenfranchised communities.

The Thurgood Marshall Center Trust has long been a standard bearer of justice for all in America. As a civil rights attorney, and later as a Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall strategically applied the principles of law to face down some of the most formidable evils of our time.

During the July 2nd celebration of what would have been Justice Marshall’s 102nd birthday, Thurgood Marshall Center Trust President Thomasina ‘Thommie’ Yearwood announced the establishment of the Thurgood Marshall Council on Social Justice to further the work of Justice Marshall as our nation faces a resurgence and escalation of attacks on social justice and equal rights under law.

“We can no longer stand by and watch the mayhem with our hands to our mouth, or our hands on a rock. We need sound, reasoned solutions to the police violence, the youth unrest, the failure of professionals to be trustworthy, the theft of wealth transfers waged against our people, and of course I could go on.”
